What is a Content Management System (CMS)?
A CMS provides a simple, secure way for people to manage the pages and content of their website. As well as providing a means to manage content, a CMS delivers the sites functionality. Features such as form submissions, site-wide search, user management, password protected pages, image management, Wiki, news and blog management are provided by the CMS. All 8bits web development projects are integrated with a CMS. Which CMS we use, and which features are enabled, depends on the size, scale and budget of the project. Expression Engine is the CMS we use for the majority of our projects as it is a well supported commercial system. It can scale up from a small site with half a dozen pages to a large commercial site with thousands.
Every project is different and the CMS configuration is customised for every customer. We don’t have standard templates that are used for every project. Each CMS build is dependant upon customer and project requirements.
